My iDatabase tickets

iDatabase is a great iPhone app (it’s better than Bento) but after finally using it a bit to design and catalogue my data I found out some standing issues and missing features.

Here’s a public copy of the four tickets, one bug* and three feature requests, that I filed a couple of days ago with the developer, Apimac.

Apimac iDatabase tickets

Bug:

1) Blank image field
In an image field, after shooting a new picture sometimes the “Use” button doesn’t place the picture in the field, which stays blank. I need to select it from the Images library. This happens after adding some records. When the app is freshly started the Use function works as expected and after a while then fails.

Feature requests:

1) A more flexible date field
It would be useful to be able to set and display just the year value in a “date” field. Currently iDatabase forces you to insert and displays both the day, the month and the year but there are instances where some of them are unknown and/or unimportant.

2) Quick(er) duplication of records
Currently iDatabase does not have an option copy and paste all fields of a recordo or (even better) to duplicate a record: you have to start over every time. This option would be very useful for multiple items or when the items have similar data and only some of it changes.

3) Export/send full record via email
Currently when a user selects the send by email feature, iDatabase exports a record only as a plain text CSV (Comma Separated Values values. I’d really like the option to use a different way/format so that when the record is received on another iPhone/iOS device, upon tap the attachment starts iDatabase and is added as a new record, with images and any non-text data.

* there is another bug: the disappearance of decimals in number fields, but Apimac is already working on fixing it.

UPDATE:

Apimac support has answered very quickly to my tickets acknowledging the three feature requests (and announcing that better export is coming up) and keeping the bug one open for investigation.

The best news regards this feature request:

[#278431] Export/send full record via email

I’m happy to tell you that the next version of the program, which will be released soon, will be able to export through email records containing images, also in PDF format.
